Tips for Moving a Chandelier

Since your chandelier serves as the centerpiece for your kitchen or dining room, it is a valuable item that you would like to bring to your new home. Moving your chandelier without damaging it can be a challenging task.
This heavy and breakable item will need to be packed away carefully to ensure it makes it through the move.

How to Pack Your Chandelier

If you choose to pack your chandelier on your own, here are some steps you can take to ensure it is packed properly. Some items will need to be packed separately from the chandelier, so be sure to label boxes clearly for easier reassembly. It is also crucial to label all chandelier boxes as fragile.
Get the Right Box
You will need to make sure you have a heavy box. Depending on the size of your chandelier, this may mean a cardboard moving box or a plastic storage bin. In other cases, you may need a custom box or a wooden box. You need to make sure the box you choose is large enough to accommodate the chandelier and additional padding on the top and bottom of the box.
Remove the Lightbulbs
Carefully remove all the lightbulbs and pack them separately. We recommend you use a cell box and wrap each bulb with packing paper or bubble wrap.
Remove the Ornamental Decorations
Next, you will want to carefully remove any of the crystal ornamental decorations such as chains, prisms, and candleholders. Each of these pieces needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap or packing paper and placed in a separate box.
Organize Cords and Wires
Using a rubber band or a twist tie, be sure to organize and neatly wrap up the wires and cords. Avoid using tape as it can leave behind a sticky residue.
Pack the Chandelier
Now you’re ready to lower the chandelier carefully into the box. Place a bottom layer of packing or foam at the bottom of the box first. Bubble wrap or packing peanuts can be used to fill in any empty space. Finish packing with a foam layer on top and tape the box securely shut.
